Bridge to Nowhere "Swimming Holes"

Selected By: KUNGPOW

This location is shown only to members

Our first Hike to Bridge to Nowhere was a great success with 34 people showed up. Now we have over 100 people! Choo choo aboard the "Orient Express"!

CARPOOL LOCATION:

MEET AT: 5:45AM to Organize for Carpool in front of the Community Center
CARPOOL LEAVES PROMPTLY FOR BRIDGE TO NOWHERE AT: 6:15AM and arrive at Bridge to Nowhere Parking Lot by 7am
HIKE STARTS PROMPTLY AT: 7:30AM
RETURN TIME: 5:00PM

Community Center Park
3936 Muscatel Ave
Rosemead, CA 91770
[masked]
AS ALWAYS PARK AT YOUR OWN RISK

This is a Public Park Facility. I called the Community Center Park and they said its public parking and its ok to park there. The problem with parking at Focus Plaza is that its a Private Facility and parking it there at 5am in the morning would really make your car stand out to the private security on on duty and there is a potential threat of your car being towed.

QUICK FACTS

Distance: 10 Miles Round Trip Hike
Difficulty: Medium due to distance of hike. Very little elevation gain but prepare to get wet.
Check-in: 7am to have a guarantee parking spot (don't forget your Adventure Pass)
Departing for Hike: 7:30am SHARP AND PROMPT.... this time we're not waiting for anyone.

*YOU MUST HAVE A MINIMUM OF 2 LITERS OF WATER NO EXCEPTION. I WILL TURN YOU AWAY AND YOU WILL NOT BE ALLOWED TO HIKE WITH US. This is a 10 Miles Roundtrip Hike!

This is a very popular hike called "The Bridge to Nowhere". This is the most fun and adventurous hike I have ever done. This is a very beautiful hike though canyons and river beds and no doubt the best in the entire range. I highly recommend this hike to any hikers. This is gonna be an easy 10 miles round trip hike set at a slow pace so we can soak in all the beauty of nature. There are stream crossings and you will get soaked so wearing sandals or shoes you don't mind getting soaked in. Also wear shorts made with material that is quick drying. You must be able to carry at least a minimum of three liters water. We will hike up to the Bridge to Nowhere and have lunch while watching people bungee jump off the bridge. After the hike we're planning on making up for the calories we've burned at a local eatery yet to be announced.

Check out the Slideshow from our hike, produced by David Wang:

Joanne, even though they allow dogs I highly
recommend that you don't bring your your dog. By the end of the hike your dog will be completely exhausted. There are some river crossings that you may need to carry your dog over because the current is too strong for him to swim. Lastly he will hold you up from the hike and you may need to keep up with the group.

If anyone has purchased an "America the Beautiful" National Parks and Federal Recreational Lands Pass ($80) in 2010, you can use this park pass to get a hanging tag, as that it covers recreation areas maintained by the federal government...however, I do not know if you can take your annual pass into any sports store to get it, or if you have to take it into the ranger's station.

What is an Adventure Pass some of you asked: The National Forest Adventure Pass is a recreation fee pass issued by the United States Forest Service that permits bearers in the four National Forests in Southern California to park their cars for the purpose of recreation.

For those of you who are doing Escondido Falls, I would suggest carpooling as well - only about 8 cars can squeeze in at the parking lot at the trailhead, but there is parking on PCH. However, I've seen the cars line PCH quite a distance, depending on the time (be sure you park on the shoulder to leave enough room for the bike lane!) It's a good hike - the falls are pretty trippy - because they are mossy!

Hope everyone had a great week so far. Its an unfortunate that this Event had to be cancel due to possible flash flood from the rain. It is particularly dangerous since the hike requires several river crossings. Thank you for everyone's Enthusiasm! Please understand that sometimes I am not able to respond to your comments right away until off work. I will always try to respond to all comments and emails in a timely fashion. Thank you for everyone's patience and Enthusiasm!

    Cheers,
